5 Best 80′s Cartoons

Growing up in the 1980′s was a treat for little boys. Unlike the previous decades the 80′s really embraced toy-themed cartoons and began to use much more Japanese inspired shows. The weekday afternoons served up the obligatory Scooby-Doo, but it was the Saturday morning shows that I craved. Everything from Super-Friends to He-Man had my undivided attention until the teen dramas came on, around noon or so. With GI JOE, Thundercats, and Smurf movies on the way, not to mention a Transformer sequel, the 80′s are hotter than ever as Hollywood attempts to cash in on fanboy nostalgia. Well, I spent a few hours and found some episodes of my favorite shows from back when shows were good. Post a comment and request anything you think I missed. Enjoy!

Thundercats

After their home planet is destroyed the Thundercats must find a new one. This was a great show about warrior cat people. The main villain was a mummy, so you know it rocked.

Transformers

This show had it all: Giant robots, amazing battles, and lasers. I never had time to notice a plot because the eye candy was too much for my fragile little mind. Optimus Prime was the coolest leader of any team ever and Megatron was completely badass. The supporting cast was always great with favorites like Bumblebee and Starscream. The song is forever burned into my memory. Now you can enjoy it.

Ghostbusters

This cartoon was also one of my favorites because of the great stories that introduced cool new ghots every week, and everyone remembers Slimer! No 80′s cartoon list is anything if it forgets one of the best cartoons ever. Also another great theme song.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe

Prince Adam was a immature teen with a giant pet scaredy-cat. Then he gets a Power Sword and can transfrom himself into He-Man with Battlecat. Skeletor is one of the coolest villains ever. He-Man was so popular he got a spin-off and a movie staring Dolph Lundegren.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

After coming in contact with strange mutagen, four baby turtles mutate into humanoids, and learn ninjitsu  from a rat.  This colorful cartoon was brilliant, with many good seasons, and four major movies.  Funny thing is, they still have new episodes coming on two different shows (TMNT and TMNT Fast Forward).  Just goes to show: Turtles are indeed timeless.

And, of course, some full episodes to enjoy.

One Response to 5 Best 80′s Cartoons

  1. Good picks! The only two of those that I actually enjoyed as a child were Ghostbusters and Ninja Turtles though. I never really liked the others you mentioned. But then again, I was not around for most of the 80′s, just the end, lol.
