A vaporizer is a simple device that is used to release the properties of herbs through heat. In the United States, they are commonly used to inhale tobacco, medicinal marijuana and aromatherapy treatments. Vaporizers are also common in other parts of the world, such as Turkey and the Middle East, where they are preferred over direct smoking.
Things You’ll Need:
- Bottle with plastic or metal cap
- Gloves
- Tubing or plastic straws (an empty plastic pen also works)
- Sharp knife
- Tape (electrical or duct tape)
- Light bulb
- Soldering iron
Build the Vaporizer
Cut the end of the light bulb at the last turn of the metal screw.
Remove the wiring inside the light bulb, making sure there are no glass fragments left.
Make two holes on a plastic or metal cap bottle, and then place the cap on the light bulb. Use tape to secure it and create an airtight container.
Insert the straw into one of the holes. Leave the second hole unobstructed. It will serve as a “smoker,” allowing any excess vapor to dissolve.
Place the herbs you plan on smoking through the hole. If the herbs are in big chunks, you should do this before you secure the cap to the light bulb.

Hey we have been smoking meth like this for quite a while now. They also have a tendency to shatter and explode because of the heat be careful. Also taking a spoon and and hitting the center lead while holding the metal ring will remove the filament and all that stuff faster and no need for the knife that black glass just shatters out. Please be careful with these and remember that heating and cooling cycles will eventually cause failure so make a new one often.
I made one very similar to this. However, I skipped the step where you cut the top of the bottle off. I accidentally discovered that the threads of 2 liter bottles actually FIT perfectly onto the threads of most lightbulbs! It is more often than not an airtight seal as well, so theres no need for tape. But other than that, mine’s identical. And I gotta say, for all you new smokers out there, especially if you do sports like I do, MAKE ONE OF THESE AND USE IT! Vaporizers are SO much better for your lungs, plus you get practically PURE THC from every hit, so as not to be wasteful. Bongs are a good alternative as they too are less harsh on your lungs, but with bongs you are still burning the substance rather than vaporizing it, so you still get a lesser concentration of THC.

Man when I first leaned how to make one of these as I went to light it the screw part fell off like it did in the out takes. Shattered everywhere haha
I’ve made a homemade vaporizer before and it does do the trick. However, this article mis represented the options of vaporizers. I actually found some great steals at this site with vaporizers under $100.
